# Fovir > Fovir is an opto-mechanical engineering firm founded by Ismaël Ziane, based in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) and working internationally. Fovir designs the housings, lens mounts, zoom mechanisms and structures that keep optical systems aligned in harsh environments, for defence, space and imaging programs, from the optical design to the first working prototypes. Fovir is being incorporated; until then the site is published by its founder, Ismaël Ziane. Facts below come from his CV. Former employers are his track record, not Fovir clients. ## Services - Lens retention and clamping: preload sizing (analytical and statistical), retaining rings, nuts and bonded joints, FEA stress checks, joint qualification by test. Typical for brittle infrared glass (germanium, chalcogenide). - Zoom design and lens alignment: GD&T, 1D to 3D tolerance stack-ups, Monte-Carlo variation analysis, decisions on boresighting and adjustment. - Thermal and structural analysis: modal, random-vibration and shock FEA, athermalization, bolted joints to VDI 2230, test plans to MIL-STD-810H and military requirements. - Full opto-mechanical design: CAD of optical benches, housings and skeletons, production drawings, sourcing of tight-tolerance parts, supplier follow-up, prototyping with local machine shops. Sectors: defence and security (thermal and day imagers, targeting systems), space (flight hardware, communication antennas, payloads), imaging OEMs and labs. ## How Fovir works 1. Requirements: the client sends the optical prescription, envelope, weight and environment specs. 2. Architecture: mount concepts, motion architecture and tolerance budget, reviewed at each milestone. 3. Analysis: FEA, thermal and athermalization checks against the requirements. 4. CAD and drawings: production-ready models and drawings. 5. Prototyping: first prototypes built with local machine shops. Deliverables include tolerance stack-ups, Monte-Carlo analyses and alignment budgets. Client data never leaves the project. ## Founder: Ismaël Ziane Opto-mechanical engineer, about 10 years on military infrared cameras, targeting systems and space hardware, in France, the UK, Switzerland and the UAE. - Madari Space, Abu Dhabi, 2026: Senior Mechanical Engineer. Structural analysis (modal, random vibration) of a space computing payload planned to launch in 2027. - EDGE, Abu Dhabi, 2023 to 2025: Opto-Mechanical Engineer. Opto-mechanical design of systems for land and air applications; led FEA in the department. Designed the optical skeleton of the MIRSAD X electro-optics targeting system (the skeleton housing all the sensors), the first working system of its kind built in the UAE. - Freshape, Lausanne, 2022 to 2023: optical solar concentrator, from prototype to production. - ALL.SPACE, Reading (UK), 2020 to 2022: Mechanical Engineer. Alignment and positioning of lenses undergoing differential thermal expansion in multi-orbit satellite terminals; full FEA model of the Hydra MAX space communication antenna; radome fabric tension preload FEA; tensile test machine to qualify adhesives. - Jaguar Land Rover, Coventry, 2019 to 2020: powertrain CAD and FEA. - Safran Electronics & Defense, Éragny (France), 2016 to 2019: Opto-Mechanical Engineer on high-performance military infrared cameras. Preloaded clamping nut for a chalcogenide (GASIR) front lens of an IR zoom camera. ## Contact - Email: ismael.ziane@fovirsystems.com - LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/fovir/ - Availability: taking on new projects, UAE and international. ## Pages - [Home](https://fovir-sequence.vercel.app/): services, track record, projects, contact - [Legal notice](https://fovir-sequence.vercel.app/legal): publisher, host, credits - [Privacy policy](https://fovir-sequence.vercel.app/privacy): personal data (none collected by the site itself)
